The Colon Stars Super Inflatable Colon is Coming to Spokane

The Colon Stars Super Inflatable Colon is an interactive educational tool with the message that colorectal cancer is preventable, treatable and beatable!  Visitors to the exhibit can get an up-close look at and visit resources booths:

  • healthy colon tissue
  • tissue with non-malignant colorectal disease like Crohn’s and colitis
  • colorectal polyps and other anomalies
  • various stages of colorectal pre-cancer and cancer stages
  • Visit resource booths and apply for health care benefits
  • Try a healthy snack and participate in kids’ activities

Walk through this giant colon and experience the message of cancer prevention and early detection. Visitors will also learn about the importance of colorectal screening, prevention tips, and risks for developing colorectal cancer, symptoms and treatment options. This is a co-partnership to engage the public, bring awareness, and sign up for screenings, health care benefits and get connected to health and social services in our community.

Warming Centers activated tonight (2/7/14)

Warming Centers will be activated tonight, starting at 8:00pm.  The warming centers are as follows:

Serves: Single adult men

Salvation Army Family Resource Center
204 E. Indiana Ave.
Serves: Families with children, couples

Serves: Single adult women

Crosswalk Shelter, 525 W. 2nd is available to serve youth ages 13-17

The centers will remain open until 7:00am tomorrow morning (2/8/14).

Spokane Housing Authority Section 8 Scam Alert

Spokane, WA – February 6, 2014 –

 

Spokane Housing Authority has been alerted to a phone scam that is occurring for people who are interested in or have applied to the 2014 Lottery Waiting List.

These phone calls claim that the person has been placed on the waiting list and then request credit card information for a small charge to ensure their successful application process.

The 2014 Lottery Waiting List pre-application is free of charge.

There are ways you can help stop scams like these, including reporting to the Federal Trade Commission at www.ftc.gov/complaint; the state’s Attorney General’s office at 800-551-4636, 206-464-6684, or www.atg.wa.gov; or reporting it to Spokane Housing Authority at mbraaten@spokanehousing.org or 509-252-7125.

Action is being taken to investigate and stop these illegal phone calls, including discussion with the FBI, Federal Trade Commission, and the Attorney General of Washington.

To submit a pre-application for the 2014 Lottery Waiting List before it closes on Monday, February 10 at 3 P.M., please visit the Spokane Housing Authority website at www.spokanehousing.org.

Once the pre-application process closes applicants should check back at www.spokanehousing.org for additional information on determining their status.

Free Family Law Clinic

A FREE Family Law Clinic for women will be held Thursday, September 19 at 12:00 noon at the Women’s Hearth located at 920 W. 2nd Ave.

 Lawyers will be available to review paperwork and answer questions for simple divorce cases and parenting plans(in which Child Protective Services is not involved). Participants must be low income and must register in advance.
